UK Theatre and Dance companies perform in Moscow as part of the
UK-Russia Year of Culture
For the UK-Russia Year of Culture in 2014 the British Council was asked to design, develop and deliver a comprehensive programme of events and projects in Russia, drawn from all four countries of the United Kingdom and representing all art forms, the creative industries, education, science and language.
The UK-Russia Year of Culture celebrated the rich and diverse cultural heritage of both countries, aiming to foster cultural exchange and the flow of ideas. Across the year, the British Council collaborated with the Golden Mask Festival, Chekhov International Festival and the XVI International Contempory Dance Festival OPEN LOOK to showcase a number of UK artists and companies in Russia.
Wayne McGregor | Random Dance, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, National Theatre of Scotland, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Scottish Ballet, Gecko, Sadler's Wells | Russell Maliphant Company, Billy Cowie, Liz Aggiss, Cheek by Jowl and Akram Khan Company amongst others took part in the celebrations throughout the year.
