Zosia Jo Dowmunt returns to Egypt with support from AIDF
Zosia Jo is back in Cairo at Ezzat Ezzat Contemporary Dance Studio to work on Ancient Modernity
Zosia Jo is back in Cairo with support from the Artists' International Development Fund (AIDF). Zosia was first in Egypt in 2014 as one of selected choreographers for Contemporary Dance Night 2014, an international dance event held in Cairo and Alexandria. Here she established foundations with Ezzat Ismail, founder of Ezzat Ezzat Contemporary Dance Studio, amongst others.
Zosia has returned to Ezzat Ezzat studio for a longer residency. She is creating a performance and dance film, Ancient Modernity, which will be performed at Townhouse Rawabet in downtown Cairo and later screened in the UK. She is collaborating with an Egyptian filmmaker, Ahmed Ezzat (aka Ninja) to create the dance film and he will also capture the process in a short documentary film.
Whilst at Ezzat Ezzat, Zosia is running workshops for performers of varying experience exploring their stories of Cairo and their experience of their own culture as well as training their dance technique and creative development. To find out more follow Zosia’s progress on her blog.
AIDF is jointly funded by the Arts Council England and the British Council. It offers early stage development opportunities for individual freelance and self-employed artists (including creative producers, publishers, curators and editors) based in England to spend time building links with artists, organisations and/or creative producers in another country.
