40% of borders around the world are closed, reducing international travel and connection. However, performance venues around the world are migrating activity online – where it can be accessed wherever you are. We've put together a list of some of the international theatre available that you can watch in English. We'll keep this page updated as new productions become available. Onnnassis Foundation, Greece

 

 

The Oanassis Foundation in Athens has made previous performances public on its YouTube channel, including XENOS from Akram Khan. On top of this they're releasing new material on YouTube daily from podcasts and online courses, to virtual cinematic experiences.

 


Online theatre from Schaubühne, Germany

 

 
Enemy of the people / Ein Volksfeind available to watch with English subtitles Saturday 18 April

Schaubühne, a Berlin theatre, are opening their virtual doors every day from 17:30 to 23:59 (British Summer Time) to bring you online versions of previous productions. Many showings come with English subtitles. See their current Spielplan for the week ahead.


HERE@HOME, USA

HERE is an off-broadway New York arts venue that specialises in new multidisciplinary work. You can join them every Wednesday for their weekly watch parties of full productions, or join themed livestreams with their artistic community every Friday with the hashtag #stillHERE. The Centre for the Less Good Idea, South Africa

 

The centre is an arts space and incubator in Johannesburg that gives space to experimental art. The theatre is currently closed due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, but their latest season is available online. View the full programme here.


Ashkal Alwan Archive, Lebanon

The material comprising the Ashkal Alwan archive includes films and performances, recordings from lectures, and numerous seminars and talks held over the past two decades. aa-archive is a unique space, and the only publicly-accessible archive of art, performance-based, and discursive practices from Lebanon.

On the Boards TV, USA

On the Boards theatre in Seattle have made their collection of full-length productions of American contemporary dance free until the end of April. If you’re able to, you can donate to support the theatre and artists.


Sydney Opera House digital season, Australia

 

Every Wednesday and Friday the Sydney Opera House are releasing archival footage, live broadcasts and talks, as well as productions you can watch on demand. See the full digital season here.


The Social Distancing Festival, Canada

An online community for artists set up by Canadian playwright Nick Green, the Social Distancing Festival showcases the work of artists from across the world alongside articles, provocations and a sense of community.
