Two Destination Language in Ukraine
Two Destination Language present Near Gone at Ukraine’s Festival for Emerging Directors
In August 2015 four young Ukrainian theatre curators headed to Edinburgh to embrace a 3-weeks long experience of the Edinburgh Fringe. This opportunity was offered via the national open call organized by the British Council Ukraine in frames of its Theatre Programme 2015. Ukrainian delegates were invited to join the panel of the prestigious Total Theatre Award and see over 50 shows. They were offered to choose two productions to bring and show in Ukraine as the outcome of their work.
Two Destinations Language’s Near Gone was one of the productions chosen to become part of the 4th edition of the Les Kurbas Young Ukrainian theatre Directors Festival in Kyiv. Near Gone is a two hander, performed by Katherina Radeva (Bulgarian) and Alister Lownie (Scottish) and is based on the real life story of Radeva’s sister. Near Gone explores understanding between languages, nations and genders. Both critics and audience in Kyiv recognized the show as being very “Ukrainian” as it touches upon relevant topics within Ukraine. Two Destination Language also lead a session on ‘England and Ukraine: a theatre dialogue’ as part of the festival.
