RSC Julius Caesar

RSC return to Russia after 45 years with their World Shakespeare Festival production of Julius Caesar

We supported the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) to return to Moscow after a 45-year absence with their production of Julius Caesar. The piece was performed at the Moscow Art Theatre, supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Chekhov International Theatre Festival and the British Council.

Julius Caesar had its world premiere in the UK as part of the World Shakespeare Festival in 2012 before it went on an acclaimed national tour of the UK. It was also televised for the BBC by Illuminations as part of their Shakespeare Unlocked season for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Claire de Braekeleer, Head of Arts, British Council Russia blogged about this historic occasion, saying: "The project was the result of years of discussion and planning between our partners the Chekhov International Festival and the RSC, whose teams have built a genuine professional and personal camaraderie."
